As I stepped into the strange classroom, I had no idea what was in store for me. Our teacher hit us with sarcastic comments and deadpanned expressions, setting him out of the crowd of bullheaded teachers. Then I knew; I was going to love this class.
The first assignment that Mr. Sands threw our way, was something I definitely did not expect. He introduced us to the word 'tantamount'. The word meaning: 'having the equivalence in seriousness to; virtually the same as'. He wanted us to create replicas of any given object, with any materials available, within the time span of an hour. Mr. Sands then pulled out a box of misplaced items, and set us loose. When I came up to the pile of items, a 1980's landline phone doused in pink and blue paint caught my eye. Grabbing it, I went back to my desk, and began working with my group. I measured the original pieces to the phone, and scaled it down to about 1/3 the original size. I then cut the pieces needed for the structure out of cardboard, and used an exact-o knife to do so. My group members found other materials to imitate the cord, paint, and buttons on the piece. Finally, I am proud to say, that we were successful in reproducing the blotchy phone. Cool, right?
